Anne Willis

Anne started up Argyll Vets in 1996 after buying the Braunton practice from Bernard Phillips, and in 1997 she opened the Ilfracombe practice. Anne has over 30 years' experience and is interested in all aspects of veterinary practice. To relax, she jumps off hills and mountains with a paraglider attached; so if you look up when you are in Woolacombe on a nice day, you may well see her in the air!

jopupsJo Dyer

Jo  joined Argyll in 2002 and went into partnership with Anne shortly afterwards. She is interested in all aspects of veterinary practice, especially surgery, but also has to spend many hours in the office as she has primary charge of running the practice. She is regularly seen cycling around the area, or running (very slowly) and has been known to take part in the occasional triathlon, for which she has far more enthusiasm than aptitude.

jc2Janet Clift

Janet joined us in 2003, and has 24 years experience in companion animal practice. Her special interests are in cat medicine (she has 4 herself) and cardiology. She relaxes by surfing, mountain biking and riding her motorbike; she also has a VW Campervan that she adores, even though it rarely manages a journey without breaking down!

pamPamela Newman

Pamela is based mainly at our Roundswell Surgery.

I completed a BA (Bachelors) in Animal Physiology and then a doctorate (DVM) in veterinary medicine at the University of California in my native USA. I subsequently moved to the Seattle area of Washington state in the beautiful Pacific Northwest (home of the rather explosive Mt St Helens volcano) where I worked as a small animal vet in both general practice and emergency/critical care.

After relocating to Devon in 2003, I have continued to work in small animal practices and have been with Argyll Vets for over 4 years now. Professionally, I enjoy all aspects of internal medicine and patient care, and have also trained in veterinary acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine. I enjoy everything outdoorsy that North Devon has to offer and spend many hours rambling along the coast and on Exmoor with my elderly Staffie (Binna) and Greyhound (Stick).  I am hoping to travel more this year and refine my bodyboarding skills.

 kathrine

Kathrine Blackie

Kathrine graduated in 1997 and joined Argyll in 2005. Her special interest is in surgery and she does most of our orthopaedic work. She is undertaking further postgraduate training in surgery in order to further increase the range of operations we can offer. Kathrine speaks fluent Danish and 'relaxes' by spending time with her 3 small children including twin boys!

Bec_editRebecca Newell

Bec works mainly at our Ilfracombe branch and has a special interest in canine medicine. She does most of our Dogs Trust visits so if you have adopted a dog from there in the last 2 years, he will know her! Bec is a keen rock-climber in her spare time.

RachelRachel Kyle

Rachel graduated from Cambridge vet school in 1999.

I joined the practice in 2006 and was immediately taken by the beauty of the area and the friendliness of the people.  I enjoy all aspects of veterinary medicine and surgery and have a particular interest in oncology and ophthalmology, working mostly at the Braunton and Ilfracombe practices. No dog as yet but there is a lurcher called Bea, who has a special place in my heart after she lived with me for a year whilst her owner went travelling.  In my spare time my favourite pastimes are surfing, and running along the coastline.'

Ella joined us in 2008. She is particularly interested in skin cases so she loves to see itchy dogs and cats! She relaxes by exercising her dog and helping her husband on the farm. She is due to take maternity leave from October 2009.

Our Nurses

We are very proud of the fact that all our nurses are Registered Veterinary Nurses which means they have undertaken several years of training, gained NVQ level 2 and 3 and are registered with the Royal College. Their work is very varied and includes care of inpatients, setting up intravenous fluids, taking blood, bandaging, carrying out nurse consultations and clinics, and giving pet care advice, among many other tasks.

swSarah Wilks

I am part of the furniture at Argyll as I'm the longest serving member of staff (I've been here since 1996!!) In my time here I have seen the veterinary nursing profession go from strength to strength. My special interests are theatre nursing & nurse clinics. I'm a bit of a 'catwoman' at the moment as I have 3 cats (Tyson, Marlie & Lemy), Iwould love a dog but currently do not have enough time. I love going to the gym, try to go twice a week but that doesn't always happen! I enjoy socialising which leads me to my next passion, Liverpool F.C. I have not managed to get to Anfield yet but it's on my to do list.

alex_editAlex Fogg

Alex works mainly at our Ilfracombe branch and has been with us since 1997, when the Ilfracombe surgery first opened. She relaxes by walking her dog, Ollie, pictured (although walking him is not always the most relaxing pastime, as he is very naughty!) She also enjoys sea-kayaking.

hayleyHayley Kliem

Hayley is personnel manager as well as a veterinary nurse, which means she is in charge of the nursing and reception team. She has also been with us for many years. She relaxes by running, going to the gym, and being part of the 'behind the scenes' team at Braunton Productions. Her ambition is to run the London Marathon within the next couple of years.

I joined the practice in 2002, and qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2007. I enjoy every part of my nursing role. I have a main role in Ilfracombe in stock control and ordering, among other things. I also enjoys the hands-on care and getting to know the patients individually. I own a very elderly Jack Russell 'Timmy' and also two horses 'Louis’ and ‘Woody'. I compete with both horses at affiliated dressage and recently represented England at the Home international where the team were second. I also enjoys all outdoor activities including walking and cycling.

hyHannah Young

I'm Head Nurse at the Roundswell branch. I've been nursing for 16 years and qualified in 1999. I moved to Devon from Gloucester to help open the Roundswell surgery in Feb 2005 and the rest is history... I have 3 dogs and 2 cats and a husband who is very patient about me bringing home waifs and strays!

Kim Kendall

Kim also joined us in 2005 when the Roundswell surgery first opened. Since then she has qualified as a Veterinary Nurse and developed a special interest in physiotherapy and rehabilitation, especially after surgery. She relaxes by walking her dog, Roxy, and driving her beloved Mini.

ckCerys Kingdom

Cerys has been part of the Argyll team since 2006. She is on maternity leave at the moment, after giving birth to twin girls in February. Her first 'child', Derek, is a terrier cross she adopted when he was a stray. She can frequently be seen walking him around Braunton, these days accompanied by a double buggy!

Our Support Staff

juliec_editJulie Cox

I have been working at Ilfracombe for 6 years as part-time receptionist, married with 2 teenage children. I have 2 dogs, one being a rescue from the Dogs Trust, 2 cats, 2 gerbils that were left at the surgery about 5 years ago and a middle-aged goldish who seems to be living forever! My hobbies are art - I enjoy painting pet portraits and houses; going out and about with the dogs,  and travelling.

jsJulie Scott

I am the "hidden face of Argyll Vets". As the Practice Administrator I run the office, payroll, accounts etc. I have been here since 2001 and have seen how the practice has developed into something quite special. It is a very friendly place to work and I see day to day how hard everyone works with the animals.
I have a dog that I "met" here at the practice. Misha was a Dogs Trust dog and came in to be spayed. When I saw her lying in the kennel, it was love at first sight!!!!! We think she is a Bichon Frise with a bit of Poodle in her.
I like to dabble in amateur dramatics and am the Secretary of Braunton Productions, we produce a musical at the Queens Theatre every July.
I also love the sea and bodyboarding but don’t seem to get the time to go very often.

 sg03Sharon Grantham

I have been with the practice for 9 years now, I am receptionist and auxiliary nurse. I enjoy my job, we are like one big happy family, no two days are ever the same and you meet a wide variety of animals and their owners.
I have 1 horse and 2 miniature Shetlands, 1 collie, 5 cats, 2 rabbits and a hand reared pet pigeon!I hope to start breeding the Shetlands in the next year or so.
My main hobbies all involve the horses. I've just recently bought a cart and have started driving with one of the Shetlands.I also try and ride my horse as much as possible.

jh03Julie Hollies

I’ve been a receptionist here since 2007. My hobbies are gardening, and long walks with a very naughty border terrier.
I’ve been married to Richard for 22 yrs , I have 1 daughter Katy (teenager), who tends to keep us both busy taxying her to and from stables. She has a horse on loan called Ketchup.
I like nothing more than relaxing in my garden after a long day at work, with my family and a nice long cool glass of white, while secretly filling in the holes Hunter the border terrier made earlier.

lkLucy Kemp

I've worked at Argyll for 6 years now. I've done a lot of nurse training but these days I mainly work on reception because I love meeting people and their pets. I'm a farmer's daughter married to a farm manager and can often be found in the milking parlour at 5.30am before coming to my day job! I have a menagerie of dogs, cats, ferrets, guinea pigs and various other pets, as well as 2 small children, so I don't have any spare time!

ogOlly Guard

I've been working at Argyll as a receptionist for the last 18mths. I previously worked at another local Veterinary practice for 5 years during which time I trained and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse. At home I work on the farm as well as often being spotted walking miles around the area and beautiful North Devon countryside accompanied by one or more of my constant companions - the wolfhounds. I am passionate about (and can jump very quickly onto my soapbox to prove it!) all aspects of equine/canine welfare especially the responsibility of meeting the psychological and physical needs of all animals in my care.

stephSteph Lees

Hi, I’m Steph and my role at Argyll is as a nursing assistant. I help the nurses and vets whenever and wherever they need me, and I am responsible for making sure the ‘behind the scenes’ area is always clean, to make sure there is no infection risk for our patients. My ambition is to be a great nurse. I love my animals and I love caring for other peoples’ animals.

ZeahZeah Henderson

It has always been my ambition to work with animals and it's great to do so with such lovely people. I work on reception at Roundswell. I love meeting all of our clients and their animals and hearing about all their crazy antics! At home I have a rabbit called Roxy, and my boyfriend and I are currently looking for a kitten to make our house a home. In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym and going horse-riding when I can.
