I've had a bit of a mixed time over the last couple of weeks. First I was delighted to be told that I had been nominated for 'Vet of the Year' in the Petplan veterinary awards. Our Ilfracombe practice was nominated as 'Veterinary practice of the year' as was our Roundswell branch a few years ago. We know that our clients and patients appreciate us but it is really nice to get that in writing! Thank you very much indeed to whoever wrote in to nominate us. Last week, not so good. In a freak accident, the front wheel of my bike fell off as I was whizzing down a concrete drive at speed, and my face was used as a brake.....not recommended! Fortunately I can't remember anything about the accident until I arrived in A and E, but suffice it to say that a lot of sutures were required, along with a nose splint and some serious dental work - which will be ongoing for some time. So I'm not a pretty sight at the moment, but Anne has forbidden me from posting a photo on this site, pointing out that as most people are not as fascinated as I am by wounds and sutures, some might actually find the picture nauseating.......I really reminded myself of the unfortunate cats we see on a regular basis, who have either fallen out of a high window (classically sunbathing on window ledge, and turn over.....) or run straight into a moving car wheel. Fortunately I was wearing my helmet as I always do, and the CT scan revealed no fractures or bleeds around the skull or brain, so although the concussion is making me a bit woozy at the moment, the damage is actually superficial and cosmetic. I'm hoping that my unexpected nose job and dental reconstructions will actually make me better-looking in the long run!! Apologies for not being at work at the moment, but I will be back as soon as I can walk properly again! |
