Services

dog-trainingWe provide a wide range of services including modern general anaesthesia, radiography, ultrasound scanning and dentistry, along with ECG, blood pressure monitoring and blood testing in our own laboratory.

Operations are performed at all clinics from Monday to Friday. Where necessary, emergency surgery will be performed at any time. Patients are admitted as soon as possible after the surgeries open and discharged between 3.30 - 6.00 pm. Most animals will be discharged the same day unless we feel it is necessary to observe them overnight.

Bringing your pet to the Clinic

Health and Safety Regulations demand that all pets be suitably restrained. We advise that all dogs be on a lead and all cats in baskets - which can be bought or borrowed from the surgery with a deposit.

Neutering

We advise that all cats and bitches be neutered at 5 - 6 months of age. Neutering of male dogs is often advisable as well. Further details can be found in the Pet Info section of the website or feel free to discuss any queries with our vets or nurses.

t;h3>Parasite Control – Fleas and worms  We recommend that all cats and dogs be treated regularly for fleas, as prevention is far better than trying to get rid of an established infestation – flea eggs can survive in the house for years!

We recommend Advocate which prevents fleas and worms on a monthly basis, as well as treating ear mites and sarcoptic mange and killing flea larvae in the environment. Alternatively, if you prefer a conventional tablet for worms we have milbemax available. For cats we now have Profender, which kills all common worms with a single spot-on application. Please contact the surgery for details or look in the Pet Info section.

Kennel Cough, intranasal drops and immunity lasts 12 months. We recommend routine vaccination against kennel cough as it is one of the commonest infectious diseases we see.

House Calls

House calls are available in an emergency or when bringing the pet to the surgery is inadvisable. However, it is often better to bring your pet into the clinic where there is a wide range of facilities available. Please ring for advice.

Emergencies

We offer a 24-hour emergency service rather than contracting out to a night service. Our vets and nurses are on call overnight in addition to their daytime duties, which can be very tiring as you can imagine! We would be grateful if you would confine out of hours calls (ie between 6.30pm and 8.30am on weekdays and after 3pm on Saturdays) to urgent calls only. Emergencies are promptly dealt with by ringing the surgery number at any time of the day or night. A call-handling service takes the calls and will always contact the duty vet who will contact you. Sometimes it may be necessary for you to transport your pet to a different surgery from that which you normally visit, in order to have the right equipment and personnel to hand. Providing a 24-hour service is very expensive and increased fees are charged out of hours in order to try and cover this.

Feeding

We can supply quality pet foods and specialist veterinary prescription foods for your pets. We have 2 trained nutritional advisors and 3 trainees on our nursing staff, who are available to discuss individual pets needs.

Pet Travel Scheme

The Pet Travel scheme was set up to allow pets to travel between member states of the EU without needing to be quarantined. Some non-EU countries also recognise Pet Passports. Always check that the country you wish to visit is on the Pet Passport list (see DEFRA website) and be aware that some countries have slightly different requirements eg Sweden and Malta. We do not advise on the requirements for individual countries as these may change from time to time; the responsibility for ascertaining your requirements lies with you, the owner. See the Pet Info section for further details.

Microchipping

We advise microchipping as an easy and effective method of identifying your pet. The process involves insertion of a microchip around the size of a small grain of rice, using a device similar to an injection needle. Even small pups or kittens barely flinch, and once your details are entered on the national database your pet can be returned to you should he or she stray at any time. Ask about our discount on microchipping.

Euthanasia

Please ask the receptionist for an appointment at a quiet time if you think your pet may need to be put to sleep. We will discuss all options with you and if this is the course decided on, this will be done compassionately and promptly.
