About us
Services

dog-trainingWe provide a wide range of services including modern general anaesthesia, radiography, ultrasound scanning and dentistry, along with ECG, blood pressure monitoring and blood testing in our own laboratory.

Operations are performed at all clinics from Monday to Friday. Where necessary, emergency surgery will be performed at any time. Patients are admitted as soon as possible after the surgeries open and discharged between 3.30 - 6.00 pm. Most animals will be discharged the same day unless we feel it is necessary to observe them overnight.

Insurance

Insurance premiums are a cost to be taken into account when taking on a new pet, along with feeding and routine preventive medicine such as vaccinations. So much is possible for sick pets these days that costs can be high. Insurance gives peace of mind when there is a large unexpected bill, for a regular monthly premium. Insurance plans vary in many respects, the main difference being whether cover is offered for a condition for life or only for 12 months. Cover for life is more expensive but if your pet develops an ongoing condition such as diabetes, arthritis or epilepsy, it will prove to be much more beneficial. Premiums vary widely depending on the company, type of policy, breed of pet and area of residence, but the price does tend to reflect the level of cover given, as you would expect. However, if money is tight, a budget policy is certainly better than no policy at all. (There are a few exceptions to this!) Details of insurance companies are available at Reception – please speak to our nurses or vets.

Repeat Prescriptions

Repeat PrescriptionsIf your pet is on long term medication, the vet will explain to you how frequently he needs checking; this could be as often as monthly or as infrequently as 6-monthly, but repeat examinations are necessary to ensure that the medication is working as it should and that the condition has not deteriorated, or a new condition arisen.

You may wish to purchase several months medication at a time, or to come in monthly. However, once dispensed, we are unable to give refunds for medications as there are strict laws concerning pharmaceuticals. We are able to dispose of unused drugs.

Requests for repeat prescriptions may be made by telephone, or in person, allowing 24 hours for the prescription to be checked and put up.

Remember: Repeat prescriptions can only be supplied within six months of the last examination.

Terms & Conditions

Ownership of Records

Case records including radiographs and similar documents are the property of, and will be retained by, Argyll Veterinary Clinic. Copies of a summary of the history will be passed on by request to another veterinary surgeon taking over the case.

Out-of-Hours Service

The Practice operates an out-of-hours service for emergencies, which can be contacted by telephoning any branch. Out-of-hours emergency cases are generally seen at the Braunton surgery, though this may vary depending on which vet is on duty.

Home visits

We provide home visits where necessary as a service to our clients, particularly for euthanasia of registered pets. However, pets are often better treated at the surgery where all the drugs, diagnostics and nursing help are available. Due to the unpredictability of the nature of work at a veterinary surgery, sometimes it is not possible to fit in a non-urgent visit on the day of request; however, please phone through your request early in the morning and we will do our best.
